Lecco, the pearl of Como Lake

Lecco established itself, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as one of the first industrial centers in Italy so much to be known as the city of iron for the great development of iron and steel industries active in the area since the twelfth century.  Lecco is also an excellent starting point to reach the other fantastic villages on Lake Como or for enchanting walks along the shore of the lake, and for the paths that connect the various hamlets: from the Duchy of Milan with the Visconti family, to the Spanish and Austrian domination. Every era has brought with it buildings and destruction, but today they are still visible and in excellent condition the medieval tower in Piazza XX Settembre, known as Torre Viscontea, and a stretch of the walls, the so-called wall of the walls The historic center that extends parallel to the shore of the lake offers architecture of nineteenth-century flavor, clearly visible in the arcade that characterizes Piazza XX Settembre and some buildings in the center. From the central squares, streets and alleys of the center branch off, characterized by the presence of fashion shops and family residences. On the left and clearly visible, because facing the lake, we have Piazza Cermenati, with the monument dedicated to Mario Cermenati, behind which we find the staircase that leads us to the Basilica of San Nicolò and the Campanile, which you can visit to climb up to the top at 96 meters and see Lecco from above. At the other extreme, at the end of the central via Roma, the monument to Alessandro Manzoni, the one who made Lecco famous with his literary masterpiece, in fact we can well say that Lecco is also the city of the Promessi Sposi.

Lecco is an essential cultural reference point for getting to know the surrounding area, a silk production tradition that is told today with silk museums, an incredible offer of trekking and climbing itineraries thanks to many cliffs and via ferrata.
