This tour starts from Piazza Cermenati, the square that opens onto the lakefront at the foot of the steps leading to the Basilica of San Nicolò and the bell tower that towers above Lecco. This square was once the port of medieval Lecco, the fortified village. From here it is possible to leave for our walk by entering Piazza XX Settembre, which for the people of Lecco is the center square par excellence. Here we find the neoclassical ports designed by the local architect Giuseppe Bovara, and precisely in a building overlooking the arcades the house where Antonio Stoppani, the father of Italian geology, who loved the mountains of Lecco was born. On the corner between Piazza Cermenati and Piazza XX Settembre stands the Palazzo delle Paure which houses the art gallery and the Lecchese Alpinistic Observatory. Here once were the walls that surrounded the village, of which traces remain in the Torre Viscontea, tower of the castle of Lecco, in the Vallo delle Mura and in the tower on which stands the bell tower of the city. From this square, there are streets and alleys that lead us to the church of Santa Marta, to the Teatro della Società with the inevitable monument to Garibaldi, the hero of the two worlds, and to the monument to Alessandro Manzoni, the writer who made Lecco famous all over the world for I Promessi Sposi. Arriving here it is certainly worth visiting the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Victory, easily visible thanks to the white-black-white appearance of the structure. Once out of the church, continue along the road that leads to the Azzone Visconti bridge, commissioned by Azzone Visconti in 1336. From here you can admire the Visconti Island from above, which is located in the middle of the river Adda. From the old bridge, as the people of Lecco call it, take the lakeside promenade that takes you first to the new bridge, Kennedy bridge, and then to the lakefront in the center. During this tour, you will be delighted by local products such as cheese, oil, wine and salami, foods that characterize the world of Lecco and Lombardy. *   Basilica di San Nicolò *   Chiesa di Santa Marta *   Palazzo delle Paure *   Ponte Azzone Visconte *   Villa Manzoni *   Teatro della Società
